SUMMARY:Diving the FOrrest Queen Shipwreck off Scituate
DESCRIPTION:In 1990 Tom Mulloy\, local diver\, discovered the 100 ft long remains of the Forest Queen shipwreck in 20 ft. of water off of 2nd Cliff\, Scituate. Since then the members of the Bassing Cove Maritime Association\, Hank Lynch\, Debra Jackson\, and Tom\, have been diving the Forest Queen to explore\, retrieve\, and restore the artifacts that tell her story. These divers have been diving the waters off of the South Shore for over 45 years searching for the facts and lore of our local maritime history that comes only from under the water. Tom and Hank are retired Fire Fighters from Quincy and Debra is retired from her school nurse position in Norwell. Tom and Hank have been diving for over 40 years with Debra joining the group 21 years ago.All three divers live in Scituate. In collaboration with Scituate's Maritime and Mossing Museum they also work closely with the Massachusetts Bureau of Undewater Archaeology. They have dove all over the world\, most recently in Chuuk Lagoon exploring Japanese shipwreck remains from Operation Hailstorm during WWII\, 1944. Tom\, Hank\, and Debra's first love is our South Shore coastal waters and are still excited when donning their cold water gear to dive these waters\, with their mission to bring your local maritime history alive.
